Outer Banks vacation rental homes are more than just a home away from home. They are a place where people make memories that last a lifetime. Some guests have yearly vacations while others come for a once in a lifetime experience. Sure they come for the beach and to visit the beautiful Outer Banks, but the most important part of their visit is where they stay. The condition of their homes can make or break their experience. We at Corolla Classic Vacations strive to make sure our houses are in tip top shape so guests can have the best visit possible! That isn’t the easiest task either. When someone stays at a beach house, they usually aren’t as careful as they are at their own house. At the beach, you don’t have to worry about setting the AC on a cooler than normal setting. You don’t think twice about sitting on the couch in your wet bathing suit. You definitely don’t worry about keeping coasters under all of your drinks! All of the normal household rules go out the door when you are at the beach. You aren’t the only one either! Just think of the 18 or more people that stay in a house each week. Then there are 18 new people coming back each week for about 20 weeks out of the year! That is a lot of jumping on beds, slamming doors, and spilled drinks! Over the course of a few summers, a beach house really takes a beating. Thankfully, that’s where Pam Handlan comes into the picture! ! A long-time employee of CCV, Pam was recently promoted to the newly created position of Property Assessment Manager. She assesses homes then works with the owners on making the necessary upgrades. That may be getting quotes for new carpets or flooring or going to local businesses to price new furniture and doing walk-throughs with owners to help them visualize the suggestions. Pam took on this role at CCV in January with some hesitation. Previously she was in charge of Housekeeping so she had the experience but she didn’t know how owners were going to respond to her suggestions. Owners have been responding well to her suggestions and upgrades have been made in time for the summer season! New furniture and appliances continue to be ordered and new flooring is being installed. We asked some owners to share their thoughts on Pam’s work. Here’s what they had to say: “Our home needed some updating and repairs prior to this rental season and Pam was instrumental in helping us to coordinate these projects. She helps get us connected with the upholstery service for recovering chairs and met the upholstery people at the house for pick-up and delivery. She also coordinated with roofers, painters and other repair persons. She assisted in securing updated bedspreads to match existing drapery and coordinated the painting in another room. She was able to pick up items we needed such as pillows and items ordered at Nags Head Shops. She is great at getting things to be taken care of in a timely fashion as well. I could go on and on just know that we are very grateful for all she did to assist us in getting our home ready and presentable for the summer renters.” -Linda Stewart Scimeca, co-owner of Tallulah 201 “It is a distinct pleasure to write this note on behalf of Pam. She is smart, she works tirelessly, her advice is sound, she knows where to shop for the best quality at the best cost, she is known at the shops in the OBX. Had it not been for her, my place would have the same old hum-drum look it has for years. Now it looks renewed and fresh. “ - Bill Van Arnam, Crowning Touch CP2 “We were thrilled to hear of her new position. I know she will be quite an asset to CCV, as she always has been. This year she took some extra time with us and we followed up on her suggestions to do some moderate and affordable upgrading. Cabana Heaven has a fresh look and is ready for this season.” -Shelly Kaplan, Cabana Heaven 400 “Jim and I are very happy to tell you just how fantastic Pam Handlan has been over the past few years with her work on our property at Corolla Light. Her energy has been inexhaustible! She is truly a delight to work with and has a great eye for color, design and detail.” -Donna Davis, Golden Days 743
